WP Accessibility Day is seeking individuals fluent in English (our primary event language) and another language to translate presentation videos. There are both paid and volunteer translation opportunities.
Our initial target languages are Spanish and French (European). However, if you are fluent in another language and interested in volunteering, we would love to hear from you! We aim to make accessibility education available in as many languages as possible.
How Translating for WP Accessibility Day Works
Each video that needs to be translated is approximately 50 minutes long.
Once a translator is onboarded, our translation team lead will assign a video to be translated. Translators will receive the original English transcript and an AI-generated translation into the new language.
The translator will review the generated translation and make any edits, as needed, to ensure clarity, readability, and accuracy in the new language compared to the original English. The video will also be available as a reference point if needed.
Paid Translation Opportunities
We’re excited to announce that we were able to raise funds to pay for translating videos from our 2024 and 2023 WordPress Accessibility Day conferences into two languages! Languages we can pay for translations into are:
- Spanish
- French (European preferred)
We will pay $80/per completed translation into these languages. Payment will be made via PayPal, Zelle, or Wise.
Please note: if you are legally eligible to work in the United States and WP Accessibility Day sends you $600 or more in contractor payments in a calendar year, you will be required to provide us with a tax ID and W-9 form so we can send you a 1099 form reporting your payments for the year.
Volunteer Translation Opportunities
While we don’t have the budget to pay for translations beyond Spanish and French, we genuinely appreciate translations into any language and welcome volunteer translators. Examples of languages we have volunteers translating into include:
- Bulgarian
- Dutch
- German
- Hebrew
- Hindi
- Hungarian
- Italian
- Korean
- Malay
In the future, we hope to be able to pay for translations into these languages and more. In the meantime, volunteering to translate presentations is a great way to give back to the community and make accessibility education available in your native language.
