“Fix your website’s accessibility with just one click!” It’s a tempting promise made by dozens of WordPress plugins and overlay tools. But in the real world, can automated scripts truly understand user intent, screen reader nuances, or complex keyboard navigation?
In this session, we will move past the marketing hype and look at the hard data. I put popular WordPress accessibility plugins to the test against a series of common, real-world accessibility errors. We’ll look at the before-and-after code to see exactly what these plugins managed to patch, what they completely ignored, and where their “fixes” actually made the user experience worse for people with disabilities.
You will leave this talk understanding the technical limitations of automated accessibility tools, why relying on them can create a false sense of security (and legal risk), and why building up your own digital accessibility skills remains the single best way to create an inclusive web.
